The Buckeyes return to the field in 36 days. We open the
season facing an Oregon State team that only won one game last year. They lost
to teams like Colorado State, Portland State, and Minnesota. It’s probably safe
to say that we will return to the field in dominating fashion.
So, with only 36 days away from dominating Oregon State, let’s
look at a linebacker who dominated opposing offenses while he was at Ohio State,
No. 36, Chris Spielman.
Spielman started for three years at Ohio State, and led the Buckeyes
in total tackles in 1986 and 1987. He has the third most tackles in
Ohio State history (546), and second most tackles in a single season (205 in 1986).
Spielman was a two-time consensus All-American, and won the
1987 Lombardi Award before being drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1988.
He was one of the best linebackers in Ohio State history. In
36 days you should watch the defense very closely because a new star could burst
into the spotlight, and follow in Chris Spielman’s footsteps.
Mr. Ohio
